Update #4: Handyman Caudill, Birmingham Alabama

Hello to every one,

The job of a handyman is never done. We have been doing all kinds of jobs for our customers in and around Birmingham Alabama. Here is a countertop that I installed. I am sorry I don't have any before pictures but this counter was all mismatched and needed replacing badly. In the mid section of the bar there used to be a built in stove top. After that was removed they just filled the section with a laminate that looked like butcher block and  did not match the counter on both sides of it. I also installed a new sink and faucet which helped the look very much. This is a laminate counter top. The color is called Blackstar Granite and is made by Wilsonart. It actually looks very much like granite. I am very impressed with this color.

Update from Handyman Caudill in Birmingham Alabama

Hello all,
We have been busy here in Birmingham Alabama doing all kinds of handyman jobs. We have done a couple of decks recently and just wanted to show some of them to you.

Here is one of the projects we have worked on recently. This porch was concrete with metal rails. The fronts of the steps had been broken off and they had settled badly. There was an older lady living here and the unevenness of the stairs made it hard for her to navigate. We built her a new deck over the old one saving her some money in the process. Notice how all the steps are evenly spaced now and there is less of a step at the door. New wood handrails and posts make this deck shine. We sanded all the handrails and rounded the corners to make it more comfortable to hold onto.

Handyman Caudill, Birmingham AL update

Hello from Handyman Caudill,

Here in Birmingham AL we are helping our customers realize their dreams. Here are a few pictures of a project we have done lately. This is the before picture of a small sagging deck that we replaced with a much larger and I might add, level, deck.
The home owner also did not like the red color of the old one.
Here is another before picture from the other side.

Here is what we replaced it with.
In process- framing done.

Same deck, different angle.

Notice that we ran support down the center of the floor joists to keep it from sagging. Some contractors will not put that in and it will all look good for a little while but we know you care about the long run. As a rule of thumb the joist should not have a span greater in feet than the nominal size of the joists in inches. for example 2x8 joists should not span farther than 8 foot.

After getting a deck installed you should let it weather a month or two and then put a good sealer/
waterproofer on it. This allows the wood time to open up the pores of the wood so it will receive the sealer but does not give it time to start to turn color. This customer wanted to seal his own deck so I do not have photos of after it was sealed.  We are very flexible that way in allowing you to get the enjoyment and cost savings of doing parts that you want to do your self. We are glad to give you advise as well if needed.

Have a wonderful day and give us a call if you need any help.
