Hello Birmingham,

I hope everyone had a good year last year. I would like to thank all of you that have given us business this past year. We have enjoyed helping you to get projects done and some emergencies handled. This year we have done several built-in shelving units and I just wanted to show you two of them.

This one was very fun and challenging. We took it from a flat wall with nothing but a fireplace. You cannot see it very well but we started with beadboard on the entire wall to give it some depth. Then we gave lots of room for books, matched existing base and crown with extra accents where the uprights hit top and bottom. We put fluted trim on the fronts of the uprights. We installed a small light in the middle to draw attention to the painting. Finally we painted the entire thing to match the off white of the existing trim. Our customer loved it. If I can find it I will post a before photo.

Here is another one. This is before. They had a sort of alcove at the bottom of their basement steps and wanted to make the best use of it. We were constrained as far as depth on both sides but realized that we could make the middle section deeper and it turned out really good.

Here is how it looks finished!

And here is the angle coming down the stairs.

Thank you so much for posting reviews. We appreciate each one.

Thanks for looking and we hope to be able to serve you again this year.

Warming Up! No Wait!

Well the weather is starting to be beautiful by spells. We are all able to enjoy the outside of our homes more. We are starting to get a lot of requests for deck cleaning and sealing/staining. We love to turn a deck beautiful for you. We took this deck from this:

To this:
Here are a couple other angles look at the finished product.

I removed the old handrails made out of 2x4s and built new handrails with standard pickets at a standard width apart. I removed the painted and peeling floor boards and step treads and replaced them with new pressure treated lumber. I added lattice on each end and you can't see it but I added a lattice gate for access under the stairs. Then we painted all the vertical surfaces and the eaves and ceiling and stained the floor and stair treads with a chocolate semi-transparent stain. The customer loved it.

We also screen-in porches and build decks to give you more space to enjoy this beautiful time of year outdoors.

If you have some nagging odds and ends that need doing but never have the time to do them check out our "web only specials." We have "time" on sale!

Thank you for taking time to look,

Update #6 Handyman Caudill in Birmingham AL

Hello,

Here are some of the things I have been working on lately.
I replaced the counter tops and a colleague of mine refinished the cabinets. I installed a new sink and cook top. These counter tops were a little more challenging than the average counter tops because of the angle on  the corners but they turned out very nice. The back splash was not molded on but I added it after I installed the counter. She wanted a very clean look and that is what we gave her.

Update# 5 Handyman Caudill in Birmingham Alabama

Hello to all in Birmingham Alabama,
Here is a recent handyman project that I really enjoyed working on. I put some shelves in this space beside the fireplace.

The shelves are made of plywood and I put a 1x2 on the front to finish the edge and to give the front edge extra rigidity. The shelves sit on strips on both sides and on the back. They are about 45 inches wide. Plywood would normally sag on the front with that kind of span but with the 1x2's they are very sturdy.

After she had the shelves The home owner decided she wanted some doors on the bottom. Since these would have to be custom ordered we decided it would be better if I just built them myself. So we discussed what she wanted: frosted glass windows, hidden hinges, and magnetic holds. She did not want any knobs on it so we put in a magnetic push/click type holder - you just push on the door and it clicks like a pen and pushes the door out enough to get hold of and open. when you close it you just push till it clicks and it stays closed.

Same doors, different angle. She wanted to do the painting so I do not have a picture with the doors painted.

Thanks for looking,
